Primer Classes for IB Year 5 / 6

Preparing for International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) level English goes beyond mere content knowledge. The journey includes:

  • knowing the key areas of concerns and the top themes for IBDP
  • honing skills in selecting appropriate IA topics and developing compelling arguments
  • developing the knack for critical, in-depth analysis and being empowered to excel in writing strategies

Our course will offer the structured support you need to attain your desired grade in IB English, and inspire to extend your love of learning beyond the syllabus.

Class Structure

Language 1. Non-literary text types: engaging with a range of texts, in a variety of media and forms

2. Linguistic and Visual Analysis: language choices, literary forms and written responses

3. Contextual elements and their effects across time and space, with connections across the local and the global

Individual Oral 1. The Learner Portfolio

2. Global Issues
  • Culture, identity and community
  • Beliefs, values and education
  • Politics, power and justice
  • Art, creativity and the imagination
  • Science, technology and the environment
3. Presentation Skills

(2 sessions)
Literature 1. Writers, time, place and culture: the text as a construct with a social capacity, intertwined with community, culture and history

2. Intertextuality: connecting the human experience across the texts

3. Perceptive analysis: context, language, structure, technique, style and the relationship among texts

(4 sessions)
